Zuma - atlantis sky patrol
Zuma - atlantis sky patrol
Date: 06 Feb 2009, 01:06
Atlantis Sky Patrol is an intriguing combination of Zuma and Disney’s homage to those classic serials, “The Rocketeer.” The core of the game is matching three colored spheres by firing puzzle pieces into a snaking chain, but the art deco atmosphere and some cool bonuses elevate it beyond a casual clone. It’s one of those games that I find myself not exactly excited to play before I start, but am pleasantly surprised after just a few minutes of play. Namco and Big Fish Games (the developer of the successful casual PC game) d this puzzler with a serial storyline. Strange doomsday devices have appeared all over the planet. Their origin is none other than the fabled city of Atlantis. Mankind must fight back against the Atlantean scientist by enlisting in the Sky Patrol, an elite pilot squadron that disables the devices with craft that just happens to shoot the same colored spheres that trigger the doomsday machines. Is it an unnecessary story? Not really, because an interesting yarn can lend urgency to a puzzler. Atlantis Sky Patrol differs from Luxor and Zuma in a couple key areas. In addition to emptying the chain of spheres, you must also pop stationary spheres littered around the screen. The chain often obscures your shot at the static spheres, adding a cool element of strategy. When you nail big chains or clean the screen, coins cascade from the top. Catching these coins so you can buy power-ups between each stages, such as an increasingly powerful light beam that aids in shot accuracy or a magnet that draws bonuses closer to your ship.
